One of Southend's 1950 Regent III/Massey, 261, EHJ445, heads west along Eastern Esplanade with a route 9 relief to Southend Victoria Circus.
Reliefs such as this between Southend and Shoebury Common were common during the summer. At this time the route to Shoebury via the sea front was part of route 9. The location is a little east of the gasworks and the photographer is standing on the seawall looking down on the road.
