Huddersfield Corporation 462, HVH462D a Daimler CVG6LX30 with East Lancs body new in 1966 and former JOC 187, NCX687 an AEC Regent V with Roe H37/28R body new in 1958.
The two buses are seen "jockeying for position" on the Northumberland Street roundabout. 462 is on the 70 to Dalton 'Black Horse' and would swing right on to Southgate. The Black Horse route had been intended as an extension of the Moldgreen trolleybus route, which was a short working of the Waterloo trolley route however it was introduced as a motorbus route. The Regent V is about to disappear down Leeds Rd. which has me a little puzzled. In their heyday these Regent V's regularly worked the 26/27 to Dewsbury which would go down Leeds Rd. but by the time of this photo NBC subsidiary Yorkshire Traction had taken the Huddersfield share in the route. I can only think 187 is working back to Leeds Rd. depot, but it appears to have passengers on board. The still under construction dual carriageway on the left of the photo is Northgate which is the A641 from Bradford to Huddersfield. The railway bridge in the distance is the subject of massive reconstruction works today as part of the Trans-Pennine upgrade work. As of last weekend from 10pm Fri 3/1/25 to 5am Mon 6/1/25 and the four following weekends the road, the main route into Huddersfield from Bradford will be closed. This includes closure of the large Halford's store and car workshop and the IMO car wash. The compensation to these businesses must be colossal. Bus routes using the A641 corridor are being diverted up back streets festooned with parked cars so total chaos is inevitable, and that's before you chuck in the dozens of rail replacement buses that are operating
