Brighton, Hove & District convertible open top Bristol FS6B, 21, SPM21, with ECW CO33/27R bodywork, new in July 1960, is pictured on seafront service 17, linking Portslade and Rottingdean, at the point where the A259 Kings Road becomes Grand Junction Road on the approach to the Palace Pier.

Much of the frontage of the Brighton seafront has been 'revitalised', a euphemism for dehumanised, since this photo was taken in the summer of 1961, and is now largely unrecognisable from over sixty years ago.

I would add that, in contrast with the objectives of 'a certain transport photographer', the inclusion of the young lady was entirely fortuitous. As I awaited the approach of the Lodekka, she and her beau spotted a break in the traffic flow just as I depressed the shutter release. It is sobering to reflect that she, like me, is now an octogenarian. Tempora mutantur.
