British European Airways (BEA) 6552, LMG159C, was one of ten Marshall B40C bodied Bedford VAL14 new in October and November 1965 for inter-terminal transfers within London (Heathrow) Airport.
They had perimeter seating and an additional central entrance on the offside. A further ten similar vehicles came in 1967, the adjacent vehicle, 6565 (OYF 265F) being one of the later batch. This later batch were B40D as they also had a rear entrance on the nearside, not visible here but evidenced on the photo of OYF 266F which is also on the site. All 20 were renumbered in April 1971 by replacing the first '6' in the fleet number with a C, part of a fleet renumbering and, on 1 April 1974, they transferred to British Airways Board, the result of the merger of BEA and BOAC. After withdrawal, both C552 and C565, as LMG 159C and OYF 265F had become, passed initially to Parker and Heard Ltd (dealer), Hampton Hill, in November and December 1978 respectively. C552 subsequently became a mobile showroom for Island Records Ltd, Hammersmith, London W6, in January 1979, while C565 was one of four which went to Air Anglia, Norwich Airport, in December 1978.
