The photos in this gallery all come from the collection of Peter Cackett, a life-long transport enthusiast. After an initial career with British Rail as a draughtsman, Peter switched jobs to drive for Southend Transport from 1975 to 1980, before moving into the Traffic Office as a traffic clerk. He left ST in 1999 to work for FWT, producing bus and rail industry publicity materials, but subsequently returned to the company and currently is a driver with Arriva Southend.
The pictures reflect various aspects of Peter's work for Southend Transport, some everyday operations, some unusual workings or special vehicles such as hired buses. The common thread is that Peter is either driving or they have a particular significance to him. A few are not of the best technical quality but are included here for their general interest. Many of the pictures were taken by Jack Wilkinson and Frank Brereton and given to Peter, but none has the photographer's name recorded, so we have not able to credit many individual shots. Captions have been provided by Richard Delahoy. The collection also includes some shots taken by Peter himself.
