MNW300, a Bedford OB with Wilks and Meade bespoke special build of 1949.
This fascinating and unique little coach was actually the property of the Leeds Wounded Warriors Welfare Committee and was built specially to their requirements. It was, however, maintained and garaged by Wallace Arnold and was driven by WA staff. Having only a reduced number of seats there was secure accommodation for several wheelchairs, which were loaded via a wide central rear door and special ramp. I took this picture on a most memorable day out for War Wounded veterans who lived permanently at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The coach is pictured at the racing stables at Middleham in North Yorkshire, where the patients greatly enjoyed the scenery and a rare opportunity to see the elegant racehorses in such close proximity. A special day for me - enjoyable and rewarding in one way, and very humbling in another.
