Continuing the Grindle theme, here we have Roy Grindle & Son of Cinderford ADG479B, their first 36 footer, a Bedford VAL14/Duple Vega Major, new to them in May 1964. They sold it to Bennett of Gloucester in July 1978. It is parked close behind (a bit too close for a good photograph) a Plaxton bodied coach of their fleet in Locking Road Coach Park, Weston-super-Mare in the summer of 1974.
Harold Grindle started his business with horse drawn carriages - this business was taken over by his son Roy, who formed the limited company. In due course, Roy's son Harry carried on the family line in the 1960s, selling the business on to Warners of Tewkesbury in 1976. This was not the end of his involvement with Grindle family businesses - in 1990, Harry together with his son Philip formed Grindle's Coaches Ltd to take over the Forest Greyhound business from Percy Grindle's daughter and her husband.
According to the VOSA website, The business is still going strong in Cinderford with licences for 11 vehicles - the company directors being Philip Roy Grindle and William Harry Roy Grindle. A family with a finely developed sense of history when they name their children.
