Bedlington & District, Ashington NLE830 was an AEC Regent III with Weymann H30/26R new at London Transport as RT3723 in May 1953 in the Country Area.
It was still so allocated in January 1970 so transferred to the newly formed London Country company. Sale to dealer PVS, Silver End followed in the following August and it made the long journey to Northumberland in February 1971, eleven more RTs followed by the end of that year.
The Weymann body is slightly older than the original, dating from release from Aldenham Works to Garston in August 1965. I don't have B&D sale details, probably for scrap, nor does the Countrybus website. NLE830 was in the first PSV Circle area fleetlist of May 1972 but not the second of July 1976.
Oxford Street, Whitley Bay in the photo was I believe at that time only served by Hunter of Seaton Delaval. The RT's presence by the seaside was unusual and due to a private hire by the Omnibus Society, Northern Branch - it had carried members from their depot in Ashington, I expect they were enjoying a break and a visit to the Bus Station and United depot nearby.
