OWX137 was a Bristol LS6G with ECW C39F body, new to West Yorkshire Road Car Co on 1 May 1955. The last in a batch of five similar vehicles it, like the others, was allocated to Harrogate depot until seasonal delicensing at the end of October.
The entire batch was relicensed for the following season, still at Harrogate and this continued until Easter 1959, when sister CUG18 was relicensed at Leeds, to break the sequence. CUG20, on the other hand, remained at Harrogate until 1961 when it, too, went to Leeds and in the years following it also ran from the other three main WY depots, at Keighley, York and Bradford. In 1969 it was one of a small number of CUGs, and the only one from this batch, to be reclassified as "Express" and accordingly was renumbered EUG95, although no body alterations took place and it retained a hinged door to the end. It was, however, painted into an Express livery of cream with a red band, as illustrated by this photo of MWY617.
Withdrawn at the end of 1970, in June 1971 it had its Gardner 6HLW engine removed for fitting into 1961 Bristol MW5G/ECW DP41F SUG 80 (7902WY). Similar treatment was given to the whole of this batch (7902-10 WY) and in exchange the Gardner 5HLW engines from this batch were fitted to the donor coaches, though not necessarily as a straight swap. Thus our subject, OWX 137, bcame an LS with a 5 cylinder engine and was then sold, without having operated in service, to Norths, Sherburn. Even after sale it had an adventurous second life, passing to independent Williams, Llangollen in November 1971; on to Finch, Higher Ince, Wigan, in July 1972, thence to Babcock & Wilcox, Contractor, Renfrew by March 1977, though based at Heysham, and finally to Martindale, dealer, Chorley by July 1980 and broken up at some date after 1982.
