The other Westcliff Regent to receive a new ECW body, JN4294, in Central Station Approach late in its life (it was withdrawn in 1961), as Eastern National 1166
If the blind is to be believed it is waiting to work a relief to Newington Avenue. This had been served by Southend Corporation 64, a route introduced to serve a new housing estate started in the early 1950s, but later incorporated in the 6/6a. By this time the route was Eastern National worked and ran between Eastwood Belgrave Road and Newington Avenue on a 15 minute frequency Mondays to Fridays, 10 minute Saturdays. However, on Sundays the full route only ran hourly, being supplemented by additional workings between Central Station and Newington Avenue to give a 15 minute frequency between those points. It seems probably that this photo was taken on a Sunday and this is one of these short workings.
