Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of The Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Char-A-Banc Company Ltd in April 1914, First Essex have repainted this Dennis Trident in Westcliff colours. It is posed alongside AJN825, the Bristol K5G which is itself 75 years old and survives in original condition (save for now having a fixed roof, not roll back canvas section).
After the official launch at Hadleigh depot, we took the bus to Bournes Green to pose for photos, the blinds are both set for the frequent Westcliff service 5 from Shoebury to Southend which passed this spot. To the left, Southend Corporation trams would have come down the Boulevard and turned right behind the buses into Thorpe Hall Avenue. Trams ceased running at this location in 1938, a year before AJN was delivered.
The Trident is now in normal service on Hadleigh depot routes in the Southend area.
