In spite of its appearance, Wallasey 78 was built by Brush as late as 1920 and was the Corporation's last tram to enter service. It only operated until 1933 when their system closed.
Like many preserved trams, it spent many years on a farm until saved in 1986. After extensive and long-term restoration, it is now a prized exhibit at the Wirral Tramway Museum.
Note the sections of U-Boat (U534) forming the exhibition "U-Boat Story" - acting as a grim reminder of the massive tonnage of merchant vessels sunk, and lives lost, many from Mersey ports.
