United Counties 829, 169EMJ, was a Leyland Lowlander LR7 with an East Lancs.H35/30F body. It was new in 6/63 to Luton Corporation Transport, no 169, passing to U.C. on 4/1/70.
It was taken out of service in July 1970 after what U.C. described as 'a virtual collapse of the chassis frame at two points'. There was also said to be extreme difficulty in obtaining spare parts for Lowlanders so the decision was made to dismantle it (and another Lowlander in a similar state) for spares to keep the others running. This also avoided the difficulty of selling a bus only fit for scrap that still, because of its age, still had a high book value.
Visible behind is lowbridge KSW6B 964, KNV337, still in use.
