United Auto's W9, 5466UP, was a Leyland PSU3/1R with Plaxton Highway B55F bodywork, which United had acquired when they bought the old-established firm of Wilkinson's of Sedgefield in February 1967. When new in May 1963 it was Wilkinson's first bus built to the 'new' maximum length of 36' and was numbered 66 in their fleet. In the United re-numbering exercise of January 1969 it received the number 4001.
Interestingly the bus stop plate still carries the operator's name 'Favourite Service 2' although that concern had sold its share of what became service 69 to TMS in April 1967.
