Former Sunderland Corporation 48, WBR248, an Atkinson Alpha PM746HL with Marshall B45D bodywork was new in January 1964. It is seen on display at the conclusion of the annual Tees-Tyne Run from Stockton to South Shields.
48 was one of a batch of three purchased in December 1963 (46) and January 1964 (47/8). All three cost £2,680 (chassis) plus £2,823 (body). 47 & 48 were fitted with semi-automatic gearboxes from new at an additional cost of £250; 46 was fitted with a constant mesh gearbox when new but as early as July 1964 this was replaced by a semi-automatic gearbox at a cost of (still) £250. The three were based at Fulwell depot when new and passed to the Tyne & Wear PTE on its formation on 1 April 1974. All three were withdrawn in July 1977 with both 46 and 48 being purchased for preservation although 47 missed out. 46 is noted as being owned by Dyson, Huddersfield but its current status is unknown.
