To mark the 20th anniversary of the X1 starting, a tour was organised in October 2000 over the whole of the original route. Former Southend Duple Caribbean bodied Tiger 249, A249SVW, by now in the fleet of Stephensons Coaches of Rochford, was used and is seen here at Reading Station. The original X1 terminus was in fact a few yards east of the point where 249 is parked but 249 and her sisters never reached Reading in service, as Reading and Southend had parted company before these 6 Tigers were delivered in 1984. Behind 249 is the former 392/212, JTD392P, then preserved.
