With the takeover of the Culturebus sightseeing service, Southend took a series of publicity photos for leaflets promoting the service. Here Astromega 243, JEV243Y, poses outside the Law Courts on Good Friday, 1987. The camera belongs to the driver, Richard Delahoy, but he’s in the driver’s seat (eating a Macdonalds!) and the shutter was fired by Chief Engineer Chris Hilditch, watched over by the professional photographer hired for the day. A similar version of this picture later appeared on the Culturebus timetable leaflet.
