Here Fleetline 376, GHJ376L, from the second batch new to Southend, crosses Bournemouth Park Road on route 21.
The 21 was a rarity in that it was a cross town route that didn't enter the town centre - running (in the period depicted) from Southchurch White Horse to Leigh Church/Station, via Cluny Square, Royston Avenue, Priory Crescent, The Bell, Carlton Avenue, Kenilworth Gardens and Manchester Drive (the western end being based on a former Westcliff Motor Services route). Outside the school peaks, the 21 was a very quiet route and at deregulation in 1986 was not registered until Essex CC stepped in to subsidise it. Today's 21 is a Southend to Canvey route operated by First, still serving a part of the traditional route.
