Two rare moments in one scene. First, where the police have closed major roads from Wilmslow Railway Station to Albert Square, Manchester, to allow this Southport open top Leyland Titan PD2/3, O30/26R, new in 1947/48 to travel along the A34 (Kingsway) through Gatley. It is one of the FFY401-12 batch, painted in Southport cream with red. Thousands lined the route on that Sunday to watch the bus or more probably to see the other rare moment, the FA Cup winners of 1969, Manchester City on their return from Wembley - they had to wait 42 years to win it again.
There are a few others photos on various web sites of this day, all taken in Manchester with none showing the lower half of the bus. If you come across a pic of the lower half which identifies it, please let sct61 know, thanks.
The FA Cup Final was played in April that year and that is spring blossom on the road, although that section has been resurfaced and altered a few times since then. That is heavy bouncing rain on the road from a sudden downpour. Together with the wind the banners on the side of the bus did not cope.
