This photograph was prompted by John Stringer's photograph of West Yorkshire PTE 3262 in service in almost exactly the same location.
Tony Blackman is seen having just got out of the cab of FFY401. This is a Leyland Titan PD2/3 with Leyland H30/26R body new in 1947 and was numerically the first of a batch of twelve. It was converted to open-top in 1962 and in 1973 was renumbered 184 as seen here to make way for Southport's first Atlanteans which came that year. It passed to Merseyside PTE in 1974.
After the date of this photograph this bus passed to Ensign who seem to have exported it and transferred the registration to a modern open-topper. Rather a shame given that FFY401 carried the first eight foot wide body built by Leyland.
