Seen passing through Mersey Square is Stockport 299, EDB553, one of the twenty-four Leyland H30/26R bodied Leyland PD2/1s supplied in 1951. Although it had by this time passed to S.E.L.N.E.C. it was still in standard Stockport livery.
What is less obvious is that it isn't working from Stockport. It was one of several of the type transferred in the very early days of SELNEC to the former SHMD depot at Tame Street, Stalybridge leaving (and one moving to Oldham) only a couple of the type at Stockport. A big clue is the way the blind apertures have been masked to fit SHMD blinds. Interestingly one at Stalybridge and the one that went to Oldham received the liveries of the erstwhile municipal operators, the Stalybridge one even getting an SHMD fleet number!
