From little acorns. KUF700 was Southdown 700, a 1950 Leyland Titan PD2/12 with Northern Counties FCH28/16RD bodywork and was intended to be the first of a fleet of such vehicles for use on express services. It began work on the Eastbourne/London service but was a spectacular failure. It rolled badly, was overweight and sluggish and by 1952 it was in use for private hires and bus work.
It managed to survive in service until 1966 when it was taken to Portslade works to be converted to a breakdown tender but the work was never finished and the vehicle remained at Portslde until 1973 when it was scrapped. Its clear to see where the later Queen Mary came from.
