PUF173H was one of a batch of 30 Leyland Leopard PSU3/1RT with Northern Counties DP49F bodies delivered to Southdown between August and November 1969, this particular vehicle in September, this colour scheme was only applied to these vehicles and was later replaced by NBC green and white. Only a handful of bodies of this style were delivered to any other operators.
I took one of these on an express journey to Bournemouth, after a breakdown, where a driver with Black & White from Cheltenham came into our digs and asked "Who's is that green thing in the garage, it looks like an iron lung" a phrase that will probably escape younger readers, he did have a point however. The destination being shown was a service that replaced a railway line axed by Dr Beeching.
