Cleveland Transit purchased the former Southdown 417, 417DCD, which arrived at Stockton carrying its original restoration and roof, but was reregistered to PRX189B and entered service in open top form as a private hire vehicle.
Carrying fleet number 500 it is seen in the company of East Yorkshire Routemaster 801 the former RM732 WLT732 at Ludlam Street depot Bradford on the occasion of a West Yorkshire Transport Museum open day. Happily the Queen Mary is now preserved as Southdown 417 but still carrying the PRX189B registration. Many of the DCD series registrations were retained by Southdown and put on Leyland Nationals in 1981 and subsequently moved on to Leyland Tiger coaches in 1984 and 417DCD was one of the latter.
