The recent discussions about Derby 27 have prompted me to submit the above photo. The occasion was thee collection of Derby 111 for preservation. We had travelled down in Oldham Crossley 368 (FBU827) seen on the left, to collect 111 (CRC911), the chassis number of which is but three different from that of 368. John Horrocks was the Engineer at Derby at the time and he posed his CVD6 27 (ACH627) in the line as well as what was at the time a training bus, the ex-Coventry COG5 47 (EVC244).
Later 368 and 111 were posed together with Mike Howarth, who bought 111, shaking hands with John Horrocks.
What happened since? Oldham 368 made just a handful of other runs before major structural work was started by myself. Whilst a lot was done it wasn't finished and I sold it in 1989 but despite the lack of activity since it has not deteriorated too much as it has remained under cover the whole time. It is currently at Boyle Street.
Derby 27 has passed through a couple of owners as has been noted here. Ironically it ended up based less than a mile from where the two Crossleys were kept, although not at the same time, before being exported.
The ex-Coventry Daimler has recently been restored by site regular Roger Burdett and looks very good, finally carrying Coventry livery again.
Derby 111 was owned by Mike Howarth until he passed away a few years ago. It was restored in the earlier livery with more green and has since moved closer to Derby.
Finally, some twenty-nine years later I started work not far from this location, at the former Railway Technical Centre.
