Beneath stormy skies and with road completely devoid of traffic OK, Bishop Auckland UPT958E calls at a stop at St Helen Auckland en route to Woodland via West Auckland. The AEC Reliance 6MU3R was the bus-bodied member of a pair new in June 1967 with Plaxton Highway B55F body.
It lasted only until October 1975 when sold for similar stage service at Craiggs of Amble. Extended life as a site hut with Derek Crouch (contractor) from 1982 was at an opencast coal mining site at Togston, but it was sadly buried there by 2000 when operations were complete.
The scene is still fairly similar today, but with a 21st century benefit that the trunk road seen here has been diverted via a bypass to the south.
