OK, Bishop Auckland sent a large excursion convoy to Whitley Bay on 7 July 1973 and by virtue of age 696DPT of May 1959 gained a photo. It's an AEC Reliance 2MU3RV with Duple Britannia C41F body.
The party size and first Saturday of July mean unusually that the scene with sea behind is in the far north of the town, only one stop from the Tynemouth & District St Mary's Island terminus. On quieter dates there was room in the sea front coach park near the town centre and Bandstand bus terminus, all free of charge as well.
The coach gave three more years of immaculate service before becoming an office in June 1976 at OK's new Newcastle, Heaton depot established the previous February. Sadly the Westerhope dealer who bought it in January 1978 scrapped it.
Just visible is companion APT153L a Bedford YRQ with Duple C45F body then just three months old.
