North Western 555, FDB555, was one of six Leyland PD2/12s with Weymann L27/26R bodies new in 1953. In May 1959 it was fitted with a Ruston & Hornsby air-cooled engine in place of the Leyland O/600 and this photo shows it with the front originally fitted after the conversion. It is seen here entering Lower Mosley Street Bus Station in Manchester for a trip on the X60 service to Blackpool followed by a Ribble Leyland bodied Royal Tiger on similar duties.
It was soon changed to have a series of louvres fitted as seen here in this April 1960 view. Conversion back to the standard Leyland engine occurred in 1965.
