North Western 555, FDB555, a Weymann L27/26R bodied Leyland PD2/12 new in 1953, was the subject of experiments and a modified front was fitted when it was, in May 1959, fitted with a Ruston and Hornsby air cooled engine in place of its Leyland O600, a type which was refitted in 1965.
Initially the front was a flat aluminium sheet but it was soon modified to have the louvres seen in this shot at Manchester, Lower Mosley Street.
