North Western bought several batches of Bristol RELLs when they became available on the open market. The penultimate batch which came in 1971 carried ECW bodywork with a special low roof line to enable them to pass under the Bridgewater Canal on the Warrington to Altringham service. 347, SJA347J, became SRL239 in the Crosville fleet and is seen at Warrington.
