Mid Wales Motorways, Newtown FFM274, a Guy Arab II 5LW/ NCME UL27/26R new 5/43 as Crosville M155 (renumbered MG155 in 1946). It was one of two (the other one was FFM273) acquired via Guy Motors, Wolverhampton by who was reconditioned in 1957.
FFM274 entered service with Mid Wales 7/57 lasting until 1963. The photo was taken during a Midland Area O.S visit on Sunday 11/8/63. Given that the Guy is missing a destination blind, it was probably already withdrawn when photographed. This looks like the Newtown garage to me.
I remember seeing these Guys (together with the other Mid Wales double deckers on the Newtown to Shrewsbury service.
Another epic Midland Red 'Day Anywhere Ticket' jaunt was Birmingham - Worcester; Worcester - Hereford via Bromyard; Hereford - Shrewsbury via Ludlow; then Shrewsbury - Birmingham on the X96 all planned out for us in the excellent booklets that Midland Red used to produce. I did keep mine for several years only for my Mum to chuck them out between me moving out and coming back to take my bits and pieces down to Somerset two weeks later. Ironic really because she never throws anything of hers away!
