I was fortunate to be working for Midland Red at Digbeth Coach Station in the early 1960s and so was on hand to photograph anything new that turned up. The acquisition of new DP single deckers from an outside supplier was quite an event and hadn't happened for 10 years at that time. Seen here is LS18A 5185, 5185HA, just after delivery from Central Works, following a quality inspection, and ready to enter service the following day. The LS18As had Leyland PSU3/4R running units with Willowbrook 48 seat dual-purpose bodywork.
5185 remained with Digbeth garage for just over a year before moving to Rugby in November 1964. She was eventually withdrawn from Hereford Depot in March 1978 and sold to South Cambridgeshire District Council in May 1979 becoming a mobile workshop by February 1982.
