This was an unusual find for someone used to the standard types operated by BMMO in the 'Black Country'. On a rare trip to Leicester, I spotted this non-standard Sentinel Midland Red single-decker 4846, HAW578. Sentinels were rare among major bus operators in the 1950s and 60s and it is a tribute to the manufacturer that Midland Red decided to operate the two it acquired with the takeover of H Boyer and Son of Rothley, rather than just sell them on.
4846 was a Sentinel STC4 model, new in June 1951,originally a demonstrator but the only one built. Acquired by Boyers in April 1953, Midland Red in February 1959 and withdrawn in June 1963. The bus saw further life with Hazeldine of Bilston.
