The chassis of Manchester 2960, GNE247, which entered service in May 1944 was initially on loan to Manchester as number 1217 with the Metro Cammell-Crossley H28/26R body removed from 1211.
Of type DD4/2 it was the prototype for the post war chassis and the chassis type was changed to DD42/1 in 1946 when the new HOE7/1 engine was fitted.
It was purchased by Manchester in July 1947 and renumbered 2960, and is seen here in Portland Street about to turn in to Parker Street Bus Station (Piccadilly). It was withdrawn in 1963 and sold for scrap after preservation attempts failed. The structure on the left is part of the framework for the 'new' bus station, long since demolished, being built at the time.
