Does anyone know why Leeds specified unpainted bonnets, and when the practice started ?

The practice dated from the nineteen thirties and was a policy followed to keep fitters oily hands from staining the paintwork No other concealed radiators buses in the Leeds fleet except the AEC Regent Vs had this feature

Cheers , thought that maybe was the case. The other concealed bonnets were fibreglass I believe.
