Former Lancashire United Transport 577, YTD878, a Daimler CVG5K with MCW Group Orion H33/28R body. New in 1956 and licenced to the South Lancashire Tramways subsidiary, though always carrying the LUT identity, this batch of 24 passed officially into the LUT fleet on the winding up of the SLT trolleybus system in 1958. Withdrawn in 1970 it is seen in North's yard at Sherburn-in Elmet shortly afterwards.
It has recently been decided that the only sure way of distinguishing whether an Orion was built by Metro-Cammell or Weymann is by the way in which the corner between the top of the inner windscreen pillar and the lower edge of the half canopy is shaped. Weymanns are said to have a squared off corner, whilst Metro-Cammell inserted a small curved fillet. So far this appears to be the case, however these bodies are described in several sources as by Weymann, but appear to have the Metro-Cammell 'bit'. Hence the cop-out in the first paragraph !
They had a very 'Manchester C.T.' look about them. To the left is an ex-Yorkshire Traction Tiger Cub/Willowbrook and an ex Southern or Western National LS/ECW bus (OTT 27). To the rear is a very tidy ex-LUT Arab IV/Northern Counties.
