North Western 401, JA7717, seen here in Parker Street, Manchester was the second of sixty-four Bristol K5Gs new in 1938/9 with ECW L23/24R bodies. It was, along with the others rebodied in 1951 by Willowbrook with the L27/26R body seen here.

North Western ran both pre and post war Bristol L saloons. One of the 1939 batch 372, AJA132, a Bristol L5G with Burlingham body built in 1950 approaches Kirkby Stephen station in 2007.

North Western 602, FDB602, one of fifteen Leyland C41C bodied Royal Tigers new in 1952, was caught in Chester Street Bus Station, Bradford whilst working as a duplicate vehicle on the X12 service Bradford - Halifax - Oldham - Manchester which was operated jointly with Yorkshire Woollen District.

North Western bought batches of AEC Renowns in the sixties - one such was 973, VDB973, dating from 1963. In 1972 the company was split between SELNEC PTE Crosville and Trent, 963 became DAA508 in the Crosville fleet and is seen at Northwich depot in 1978

North Western bought several batches of Bristol RELLs when they became available on the open market. The penultimate batch which came in 1971 carried ECW bodywork with a special low roof line to enable them to pass under the Bridgewater Canal on the Warrington to Altringham service. 347, SJA347J, became SRL239 in the Crosville fleet and is seen at Warrington.
