1. ... Bournemouth Corporation car number 85 in Mallard Road Depot - after service with Bournemouth, it operated with Llandudno and Colwyn Bay from 1936 until withdrawn in 1956.

2. LJ7702 ... This picture shows the two trolleybuses that Southend Corporation converted to mobile toilets in 1950 and which regularly appeared at events in the town thoughout the fifties and into the sixties - they were sold for scrap in 1967.
3. LJ7702 ... This is a second picture of ex-Bournemouth AEC Trolley 69, LJ7702, which was converted by Southend Corporation into a mobile toilet in 1950.
4. ALJ62 ... Much of Robert's early photographic output showed his love of electric traction, trams and trolleybuses featuring strongly. He was resident in New Milton at the time and attended college in Bournemouth, so that town's trolleybus network is very well represented.

8. ALJ986 ... Bournemouth 202, ALJ986, fitted with a Park Royal H31/25D body was one of sixty-three Sunbeam MS2s new in 1935 as tram replacements with fleet numbers 90 to 152. In July 1958, this one, originally numbered 112, was rebuilt to O40/29R and renumbered.

15. DEL37 ... Unfortunately I had knocked my camera and dislodged the viewfinder which I didn't discover until I eventually got the slides back, hence my cutting off the tops of the towers. On the left is DEL37 a 1937 Bedford WHG tower wagon of Bournemouth Corporation Transport which had entered preservation, but may not have survived. On the right is VH6217 an ex Huddersfield AEC Regent acquired by Bournemouth in 1945 but not used in passenger service, instead being rebuilt as a tower wagon. Originally also painted crimson it was later painted in the standard primrose and maroon livery, as applied to the bus fleet.

21. FEL218 ... An ex-Bournemouth Bedford looking very secondhand. It started life as Bournemouth 15, FEL218, a Bedford WTB with Burlingham 25 seat body, new in 1939, one of a fleet of 16 bought by the Corporation just before the war for use on the promenade and town routes where the traffic was insufficient to justify trolleybus operation.

45. JLJ402 ... JLJ402 was new to Bournemouth on the 6th April 1949 and has a Burlingham body that was originally classed as FC32F. There is already a 1954 photo of it on SCT61 and Roger Burdett comments on that link that the DP seats were later replaced with bus seats.

46. JLJ403 ... Chaldon Herring is a small village in Dorset near to Lulworth Cove. On holiday there I was surprised to come across this. JLJ403 was a Leyland Tiger PS2/1 with Burlingham FC32F body that was rapidly modified to FC31F and entered service as Bournemouth 46 on 22 August 1949. In August 1959 it was converted for one-man operation and fitted with seats from withdrawn trolleybuses to give a revised capacity of 35.

47. JLJ403 ... Preserved as part of the Bournemouth Heritage Transport Collection, which I believe is now based at Winkleigh, JLJ403 is a former Bournemouth Corporation Leyland PS2/3 with full-fronted Burlingham bodywork and was new in 1949.

98. 6162RU ... A shot of Bournemouth PD3 162, 6162RU, taken in the summer of 1967 at Alum Chine, on route 17 from Bournemouth Square to Alum Chine. It was a one man bus in winter using Tiger Cubs, and two man operation in summer. 162 was more usually to be found on route 1, Bournemouth to Somerford via Christcurch.

99. 6162RU ... Isle of Man Road Services 22, WMN8, a 1957 Leyland Tiger Cub with Weymann bodywork. Alongside is 73, LMN73, a 1963 Leyland Titan PD3A/1 with Weymann bodywork that originated in the Bournemouth fleet as their 162, 6162RU.

100. 6162RU ... LMN73 was a Leyland PD3A/1 with Weymann H39/30F body new to Bournemouth Corporation in 1963 as 162 (6162RU), sold to IOM Road Services in 1974. It is seen here loading at Port Erin on the Douglas service – unfortunately the three other friends I was with got on and I didn’t!

101. 6165RU ... Bournemouth Corporation 165, 6165RU, a 1963 Leyland Titan PD3A/1 with Weymann body. These were the first post war buses in Bournemouth not to have a two door layout. This bus was sold to Isle of Man Road Services in 1974 and is seen at their depot in Douglas carrying full Bournemouth livery although re-registered in the Isle of Man as LMN76.

109. AEL173B ... A trio of ex Bournemouth Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 with Weymann H43/31F bodywork came to Berresfords and the associated Stoniers fleets in 1980. Two were at Berresfords, AEL173B and AEL178B and the former is seen on the forecourt of Cheddleton depot on 10 May 1981

110. ALJ341B ... ALJ341B, Daimler CRG6LX, Bournemouth Corporation 41 with M. H. Coachworks H77F body built 1964, apparently originally part of an order for Belfast. The trolleybus overhead is reflected on the bus windows but by August, the trolleys had been withdrawn a few weeks before.

111. ... Is this one allowed in the "Topless Beauties" gallery???? You can just catch a whiff of the sea air as we travel on a Bournemouth open top Fleetline with the breeze catching the hair, which wouldn't be a problem for the photographer nowadays! Just don't stand up and touch the trolleybus wires, although I presume they had been "unplugged" by this time.

We are getting into the "bread van" era, and while I never considered them to be "real buses", they were certainly part of the "small is economical" thinking which was about to be inflicted on the travelling public. Bournemouth M2, ERU402L, was a Ford with Strachan B16F body, new in May 1973.
