Provincial (Gosport & Fareham)

Provincial CD7045 is a Leyland G7 with Short O27/24RO body work and originated with Southdown in 1922. She moved to Provincial in 1934 and was set aside for preservation in 1946. In that preserved and immaculate state she was a regular performer at the annual Gosport carnival.

Provincal of Gosport AEC Regent 35, BOR767 dates from 1936, and has a Park Royal body. It is seen in Kings Road Harrogate in 1968 at an early Trans Pennine Rally.

On the right is the famous ex-Provincial (Gosport and Fareham) 35, BOR767, a 1936 AEC Regent with Park Royal H30/26R. The top deck is from sister No44 when 35 had an argument with the famous Fareham Railway arch.

Gosport & Fareham (Provincial), Hoeford 36, FT4220, was one of three A.E.C. O661 Regents with Pickering H30/26R bodies acquired in 1957 from Tynemouth & District.

Gosport & Fareham (Provincial) 39, FT4222, was an AEC 0661 Regent new to Tynemouth & District T95 in 1937 with a Weymann H26/26F body. It had been rebodied in 1949 with a Pickering H30/26R body and was acquired by Gosport & Fareham in 1957 as one of nine vehicles to replace those lost in the Hoeford garage fire of 18th June 1957.

Gosport & Fareham (Provincial), Hoeford 2, BUS107, was an A.E.C. O661 Regent with a Weymann H30/26R body which had been new as Glasgow 541 in 1938, passing to Procter, Hanley in May 1953. It was acquired from Procter in 1957.†

The chassis of Gosport & Fareham (Provincial), Hoeford 14, EOR251, was an A.E.C. 672 Mandator which had been new to the Texas Oil Company in 1932 with a tanker body. The chassis was acquired in 1943 and was rebuilt to forward control, fitted with an A.E.C. 7.7 litre oil engine, a Regent radiator and a dropped rear frame and fitted with a Reading H30/26R body before entering service in 1944.

270MHO, Provincial 59, with an AEC Regent II chassis built in 1946 and subsequently re-bodied by Reading of Portsmouth in 1964. BBF1 notes it as "Ex Hawkins" in 1962 and "14" in the Provincial fleet.

Gosport & Fareham (Provincial), Hoeford 66, GOU449, was an A.E.C. 662 Regal which used the chassis of GN7271 new to Timpson, London S.E.6 in 1931. It was fitted with an A.E.C. 7.7 litre oil engine and a Reading C32R body before entering service in 1949.

The Gosport ferry terminus in April 1954 sees Provincial 1949 built Guy/Park Royal bodied Guy Arab III HCG42, fleet no. 7, and 1940-built AEC Regent I, DOU427 fleet no. 50, also with Park Royal bodywork, taking centre stage.

Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Co Ltd (Provincial) CHO449C started off as LT G276, GYL416, a Guy Arab with Northern Counties body in 1945. It was acquired by Provincial in May 1963, and in 1965 fitted with an air-cooled engine and rebodied by Reading.
