Portsmouth Tower Wagon TW1 TP181 attends to the overhead wiring on the north side of Ports Bridge in August 1950. It had been converted 1/33 from bus 16, a 1924 Dennis 50cwt with a Strachan & Brown body.
It gained the engine from 1931 Tilling Stevens bus 2 RV237 in 1941 after RV237 fell prey to enemy action. TW1 soldiered on until 1953 when it (and similar TW2) had been replaced by conversions of 1933 Leyland TD2 RV3411/2.
Being Portsmouth, I expect that the extending tower platforms lived on on the Titans.
How did the crew survive without hi-vis jackets and a multitude of traffic cones?
