This is JA5528, North Western 728, dating from June 1936 a Bristol JO5G originally with Eastern Counties (4218) B31R body but rebodied by Brush B31R in 1946. It is part of the Quantock Heritage collection.

North Western 415, JA7787, awaiting departure at Glossop (Norfolk Arms Hotel) during the late 1950's. It was a Bristol K5G, new in 1938 with fleet number 887 and an ECW body but in 1951 it was rebodied by Willowbrook and renumbered.

North Western 421, JA7793, is a 1938 Bristol K5G with a 1951 Willowbrook L27/26R body. Also withdrawn by the time the Ian Allan ABC was published in 1964, it carries the version of the livery with the cream roof.

Two North Western Road Car Company buses from different eras, 423, JA7795, a Bristol K5G with Willowbrook L27/28R body, delivered new in 1938 as Fleet No 895 originally with an ECW body but was rebodied in 1951/2. It was not withdrawn until 1965.

North Western bought this Bristol K6G in 1939. 432, AJA152, originally carried ECW bodywork but following the second world war it was rebodied in 1951 by Willowbrook to give a further 15 years of service, finally being withdrawn in 1965.

New in 1950 this was numerically the last Bristol L5G delivered to North Western and 320, EDB320 is seen on a wet day on the Tyne-Tees-Mersey service about to leave Manchester L.M.S. for a short working to Leeds. It had a Weymann B35R body and survived until 1963.

North Western 395, EDB322, was one of the first two Atkinson passenger chassis to be placed in service and was an Alpha with Weymann B42R bodywork. It is seen on a slightly misty day at the Urmston garage of the operator.

FDB500, North Western 500, was the first of the Atkinsons delivered in 1952 following delivery in 1951 of the first two Atkinson passenger chassis to be placed in service - 394/5, EDB321/2. This one has a Weymann B42R body on its Atkinson Alpha BPM746H chassis and is seen on the 27 service to Buxton in this shot at Manchester L.M.S.

North Western 555, FDB555, a Weymann L27/26R bodied Leyland PD2/12 new in 1953, was the subject of experiments and a modified front was fitted when it was, in May 1959, fitted with a Ruston and Hornsby air cooled engine in place of its Leyland O600, a type which was refitted in 1965.

North Western 555, FDB555, was one of six Leyland PD2/12s with Weymann L27/26R bodies new in 1953. In May 1959 it was fitted with a Ruston & Hornsby air-cooled engine in place of the Leyland O/600 and this photo shows it with the front originally fitted after the conversion. It is seen here entering Lower Mosley Street Bus Station in Manchester for a trip on the X60 service to Blackpool followed by a Ribble Leyland bodied Royal Tiger on similar duties.

Seen in Altrincham Bus Station is North Western 621, HJA621, one of ten A.E.C. MU3RA Reliances with Burlingham B44F bodies new in 1955. Buses now use the Interchange outside Altrincham Station. Withdrawn in 1968, it passed to Greatrex, Stafford as number 110 in July 1969.

Paton Bros VDB910, a Leyland PSU3/3RT with Alexander DP49F bodywork which was new to North Western in March 1962 as their 910, stands in dazzling sunshine in the yard at Renfrew Ferry. Patons acquired it in November 1975 and withdrew it in October 1977.

In 1976 Ensign loaned two Leyland Leopards to Southend, both being painted in Southend colours and numbered 205, VDB915 (seen here) and 204, 432FXX. 205 was an Alexander DP bodied example ex North Western Road Car, seen here in Mountdale Gardens, Leigh, outside St Christophers School, on a school contract. Both were later used on stage services as well as contracts.

The penultimate batch which came in 1971 carried ECW bodywork with a special low roof line to enable them to pass under the Bridgewater Canal on the Warrington to Altringham service. 374, SJA374J, became SRL239 in the Crosville fleet and is seen at Warrington.

In 1971 North Western took delivery of a batch of 9 Bristol RELL6L's numbered 373 to 381 registered SJA373-381J with modified roof profiles to fit under the canal bridge at Dunham Massey. These buses replaced the famous Bedford VAL's pictured elsewhere on the site.
