1. UP551
Northern General bought chassis from BMMO in the early twenties including this SOS QL 338, UP551, seen at the Festival of Transport at Beamish. The very narrow cab on these vehicles is apparent in this view. Arriving as a semi derelict wreck this bus has been painstakingly rebuilt by the Beamish staff.

Northern General bought this Associated-Daimler 416 in 1928. It survived in chassis only form and was exported to the USA where its American owner fitted the replica charabanc body it carries today.

Brooks SOS ON CN6019, new in 1934 to Northern General 613 with a Short B34F body. In 1940, it was requisitioned by the War Dept, then in 1945 to Brooks then James (Showman) Aspley Notts. Last licensed 9/51. Body was rebuilt at Bracebridge. with coach seats.

Northern General 1453, KPT136, was a Guy Arab III (5LW) with an ACB B35F body which had been new in March 1949 to Hurst, Winlaton. It was acquired in August 1951 along with eleven other vehicles when Hurst's business was acquired and is seen at Marlborough Crescent Bus Station.

Green Bus Company, Rugeley 15, KPT264, acquired in January 1960, has seen better days having been withdrawn in 1963 and is seen at the Uttoxeter garage. It was one of eight such buses acquired from Northern General in 1959/1960 and was a Guy Arab III with a Brush B38F body dating from 1949.

Green Bus Company, Rugeley 17, LPT140, was a Guy Arab III fitted with a Brush B38F which had been new in 1950 to Northern General as number 1340. It was acquired by Green Bus Company in October 1962 and was one of four acquired at that time following eight which had been acquired in 1959/60. It is at the Rugeley garage of Green Bus.

Northern General 1370, CCN370 was constructed using the units from AEC Regal 767, CN7982, and a new AEC Regal 30' chassis frame. It was bodied by Picktree as FC35F in 1951 and, when seen at the West Yorkshire Coach Station on Wellington Street, was operating on the Liverpool to Newcastle service.

Guy Arab IV/Weymann Orion CU6298 Started life in 1953 as Northern General 1498 but by 1965 it had joined the fleet of Graham's Bus Service, Paisley as their 68.

Wakefield Motor's 192, FT7792 (with 191, FT7791 on the left) were two AEC Beadle rebuilds with Beadle FC39F bodies of 1954. Unusually, these were not allocated Northern General chassis numbers and their former identities were unknown. Both were sold to Garners of Bridge of Weir in 1962, and withdrawn in 1965.

During 1976 Northern General had a vehicle shortage that resulted in the loan of a handful of buses from Southdown. One of these, Southdown 112, 112CUF, is seen in Sunderland bus station ready to depart for Consett. 112 is a Leyland Leopard PSU3/1 with Marshall B45F bodywork new to Southdown in 1963.

Northern General Wearsider conversion from Routemaster 2085, RCN685, was an experimental rebuild to see if half cab vehicles could be economically converted to OMO. No more conversions followed.

Northern 3071, RCN687, the former 2087 was apparently one of only two Routemasters to gain the overall yellow National Bus Company version of the Tyne and Wear PTE livery. Seen outside Sunderland depot where the bus had just reversed out of the depot and was pulling forward.

Northern General 2092, RCN692, was a Park Royal 3R2RH Routemaster with a Park Royal H41/31F body new in April 1964. It was equipped with a Leyland O600 engine and is seen outside the garage at Jarrow.

Northern General 2099 was an AEC Routemaster with Park Royal H41/31F bodywork which suffered a series of identity changes over the years. New in March 1964 and bearing the registration RCN699 it was allocated to Consett depot. In January 1975 it was re-numbered 3083. It was sold in January 1980 and two months later it was purchased by Stephenson's of Spath who numbered it 28. In January 1983 it was re-numbered 52.

Northern General Routemaster RCN699, originally 2099 and later 3083, a 1964 example with Park Royal H41/31F bodywork. Sold by Northern to Wombwell Diesels, near Rotherham in November 1980, it passed to Stevensons of Uttoxeter Ltd Spath, in January 1981, as their No. 28.

One of six former East Yorkshire AEC Renowns that came to Northern General's Tynemouth subsidiary in 1972 is 3209 GAT818D. By the time this picture was taken, the bus was carrying the NBC style yellow livery of the Tyne and Wear PTE and Northern fleetnames, and is seen at Percy Main depot.

Seen in Hartlepool in 1972 is Northern General Leyland Atlantean 2139, MUP139D, a 1966 example with Alexander bodywork advertising (if thats the word) a local DIY shop The driver smiling in the corner is the late Harry Hayworth who drove many enthusiasts specials from Leeds in the late sixties and early seventies.

In 1971 Northern General rebuilt an accident damaged Leyland Titan PD3 to a normal control layout as an experimental O.M.O. bus to see if rebuilding their other front engined chassis in this way was viable. The resultant vehicle was called the Tynesider and re-registered MCN30K.

Northern General took over the Consett Independent Venture in 1969. It was run as a separate subsiduary until 1975 when it was absorbed into the Northern company. This Leyland Leopard with Alexander bodywork, 295, RPT295K, was delivered in 1971 and continued the buying policy of the company prior to its sale.
