West Yorkshire Road Car DAW9, 1953U, was one of a batch of six AEC Regent V D3RVs with Roe H37/28R bodywork new to Samuel Ledgard in September 1957 (1949-1954U).
Following West Yorkshire's acquisition of the Ledgard business in October 1967, the vehicles were given fleet numbers DAW5-10 and were all allocated to the former Ledgard's depot at Otley.
Alongside the AEC is West Yorkshire SMG15 (823BWY), one of twenty Bristol MW6Gs with ECW B45F bodywork delivered in 1963 (SMG13-32: 821-840BWY). The batch became 1121-1140 in the October 1971 renumbering (SMG15 becoming 1123) where, by happy coincidence, the last two digits of the new fleet numbers matched the last two of the registrations.
Now I have to confess that this photo has frustrated me for over fifty years. One of my early Box Brownie efforts, if only I'd thought to aim the camera slightly more to the right, it would have fully included the lovely LS5G as well. My excuse is that it was all just part of the learning process, plus I was no doubt still very excited about being let loose with the family camera!
