Samuel Ledgard Operator Index

It is fifty years since Independent Coachways of Horsforth, Leeds was formed in March 1968 and their first vehicle was ex-Samuel Ledgard, UUA791 an AEC Reliance with Burlingham Seagull C41F bodywork.
One of the founders of the company was Tony Edwards who was formerly Assistant Traffic Manager with Ledgard's, so this was an ideal choice to commence operations with. Also appropriate was over a period of time many of the staff consisted of ex-Ledgard employees. The coach is pictured in Independent's version of its former colours of cream, blue and black.
UUA791 would have been a candidate for preservation but unfortunately it had to be part exchanged with a dealer for the purchase of a more modern vehicle in May 1970.
Photo was taken on a staff and friends annual outing to the Grand Transport Extravaganza event at Crich Tramway Museum.
