HLW139 of A1, Ardrossan (Ayrshire Bus Owners) was ex-London RT152 - the first post-war 'RT' - and is seen at Stevenston.

2. JXN354
Leyland 7RTs were popular acquisitions by independents when disposed of by London Transport and former RTL31, JXN354, seen at the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan, had found its way to McKinnon, Kilmarnock (A.1. Service) around March 1958 and was withdrawn in January 1968.

A second view of JXN366 showing the front entrance as it leaves the terminus at Stevenston. It had been acquired from London Transport by A1, Ardrossan in 1958 and was converted in late 1963 whilst owned by Docherty, Irvine.

JXN366 (London Transport RTL43) dating from 1948 was acquired by A1, Ardrossan (Owning member - Docherty, Irvine) in 1958. In late 1963 it was converted by a local coachbuilder to H32/25F and is seen here approaching the terminus at Stevenston.

A third rear view of JXN366 taken as it leaves the terminus at Stevenston. The neat treatment of the rear end when rebuilt to front entrance can be seen. Owned by Docherty, Irvine of the Ayrshire Bus Owners (A1, Ardrossan) it had been acquired in 1958 and was converted to front entrance in late 1963.

Ex-London Transport Executive RT1406, JXC169, an A.E.C. O961 Regent III new in January 1949 with a Cravens H30/26R body was acquired by Stewart (A.1. Service), Stevenston in January 1957.

Midland Scottish DCS616, a Daimler CVD6 built in 1950 with Massey O32/28RD bodywork. This had been new to Hunter of Dreghorn, a member of the A1 Ardrossan group, and was used by Midland for Stirling tours.

10. KGK771
Seen leaving the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan is ex-London Transport KGK771 which was an A.E.C. O961 Regent III with a Cravens H30/26R body new in January 1950. It is seen in the service of Murray, Saltcoats(A.1. Service).

11. NTF9
NTF9 was the only example built of the Leyland PD2/15 model. It had a pneumocyclic gearbox and, although built to the 27' length, was built as H30/26R as were the majority of the PD2/10 and PD2/12 models with Leyland bodies and NTF9 remained as such. It was built in 1951 entering use in November 1951 as a Leyland experimental vehicle and demonstrator before being sold in December 1956 to Docherty, Irvine one of the members of the A1 Service.

13. LFS415
A1 Service, Ardrossan, LFS415, a Leyland Titan PD2/20 built in 1954 with Metro-Cammell H33/29R bodywork. This had been new as Edinburgh Corporation 415 and was owned by Steele in the A1 group. Note the "Royal Tiger" on the radiator cover.

A.1. Service GSD366, Daimler CVG6 built 1956 with Northern Counties H32/28R body passes through Irvine heading for Ardrossan.

A1 Service (owning member Thomas Hunter) RAG578 was a Daimler CVG6/30 with Northern Counties FH40/33F bodywork and had been new in 1960. It is unique as the only Daimler with this style of bodywork.

TCS101 was a Leyland PD2A/30 with a Northern Counties H36/28F body new in January 1962 to J.J. Murray, Saltcoats (A.1. Service) and was seen at the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan.

17. TSD285
Docherty, Irvine 21 (A.1. Service) TSD285 was a Leyland PD3/2 with an Alexander H41/31F body new in March 1962 and seen at the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan.

18. TSD285
A 1 service Leyland PD3/2 with Alexander H72F body built in 1962 was originally TSD285 but has appeared in recent years with two other registrations. Seen at Kilwinning at a Country Fair, the body is almost identical to Glasgow's PD3s (apart from the interior seats etc.), and was probably "tagged on" to the GCT order.

19. WCS195
A1 Service (Hill & Paterson) owned WCS195, one of three AEC Regent Vs with Strachan H35/28RD bodies to enter service with the company in 1963; the others went to Robert Meney and Kerr & Linney (Elizabeth Kerr and James Linney), both of Ardrossan.

20. WCS195
Hill and Patterson, a member of the Ardrossan based A1 Services Co-operative, bought this AEC Regent V in 1963. One of a trio delivered to members of the co-operative; all carried this unusual and rare Strachans bodywork. WCS195 is seen at the 1981 Harrogate Transpennine Rally.

In another strange co-incidence, WCS195, A1 Service AEC Regent V/Strachan H35/28RD body from 1963 has been preserved, but in this view in service on a rather quiet run through Ardrossan. The bodywork is certainly distinctive.

Kerr & Linney (A.1. Service) bought this Strachans H35/28RD bodied A.E.C. 2D2RA Regent V registered WCS196 in 1963 which is seen at the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan.

Daimler CRG6LX Fleetline AAG312B with a Massey H43/31F body, seen here at the Parkhouse Stance, Ardrossan, was operated by Brown, Dreghorn (A.1. Service) and was new in June 1964.

A poor shot of Kilmarnock A1 bus station which shows part of the canopy. The buses are interesting, from left to right, JSD539F, a Glasgow style Atlantean, NSD211G, a Panorama windowed Alexander bodied Atlantean, (Edinburgh style) and EAG881D, a low height Daimler Fleetline. Note the "Glasgow saltaire" Atlantean badge, the Leyland one on NSD211G and the silver star embellishment on the Fleetline! All common place in 1969!

PAG761H was a Daimler Fleetline CRG6LX with Alexander H44/31F bodywork owned by A1 Service member James Brown of Dreghorn. Brown had joined the A1 consortium in 1950, buying the share previously held by William Hill.
