This is a mystery shot and a most unusual vehicle. FVO762 was a Commer Superpoise of just pre-war or just post-war vintage and is seen here with a trailer of utility appearance. It seems to be a posed shot and not a wartime one, but what was its intended use? The ensemble was accredited to Mansfield & District, which I'm sure it's not, although it does seem to be registered in that area.

The Weymann trailer of one of the ex-Mansfield and District articulated buses, FVO762/3. The buses passed to the electricity supply part of Balfour Beatty and then to the East Midlands Electricity Board after nationalisation; seen here in a field and apparently used as a site hut (or derelict!).

A Commer Commando with Park Royal one and a half deck bodywork, used as a mobile control room by the Yorkshire Branch of the British Automobile Racing Club, and seen at a hillclimbing event at Harewood House in 1969.

JLR221 is a Commer Commando Q4, one of the large number of airport coaches to this design used by the RAF and the fledgling airways in the early postwar period. Here it is in use with a showman at the funfair on Colchester Recreation Ground.

Towards the end of the war and shortly after, various new small buses were acquired by City Coach for the country routes based on Brentwood (although they also regularly appeared in Southend). This Commer, formerly C5, KTW247, parked outside Tyler's Avenue depot, was new in 1946 and has a Mulliner body which looks to be to utility standards.

Taken at full zoom from the railway bridge at Carlton, Barnsley is Commer Avenger JWU792 with Burlingham bodywork, seen in one of the yards used by Paul Sykes for those vehicles destined for possible further sale but not good enough for the main yard in Barnsley. It displays the name of J Farren of Skipton on the rear and looks remarkably well for a 28 year old vehicle.

Harrington designed a metal framed body intended for export markets, but a number were built for use in this country including some on Commer Avenger chassis and OFC489, seen here with House, Watlington at their garage was an early example with a body which seated 32. It had been new in August 1949 to Howes, Oxford, passing to Ilsley, Oxford in December 1952 and to Willis, Oxford in December 1954 before passing to House in August 1956.

Seen on the Esplanade in St. Helier is Parker, St. Helier J21199, which was a Commer 23A Avenger with a Junction C35F body new as DRS560 to Cheyne, Aberdeen in 1950. It was acquired by Tantivy as number 14 in April 1961 and after withdrawal in August 1971 passed to Parker who used it as a deckchair store.

Seen in Buckingham Palace Road outside the Air Terminal was B.O.A.C. 1864F, NLP803, a Harrington-Commer Contender new in 1953 with a C35C body. It had an additional entrance centrally placed on the off-side and along with the other four in the batch was demoted to non-P.S.V. status around 1960 and used as a terminal transfer coach. It was withdrawn and sold in April 1962.

Skyline Travels seems an appropriate name for the operator of 23Sri4326 which had been new to British Overseas Airways Corporation in 1954. It was a Harrington-Commer Contender (48A5017 - INTEG00017) with a body which seated C35C when new and it was one of thirteen such coaches based overseas.

The B43F body had the side windows divided by polished metal strips as on the coaches of the period whereas the Highway body, the first of which was delivered the same month, had the more familiar method of glazing.

WKJ787 at the border crossing lay-by on the A68, being taken by Roger Burdett to the Scottish Bus Museum open day via the Lakeside Railway and returning via Beamish. It is a Beadle Rochester demonstrator fitted with Commer TS3 engine which spent its early working life with Moss Tours on the Isle of Wight. It had a re-conditioned engine fitted in 2006.

Another slide taken at Blackwaterfoot, Arran, is of 141HDH, a Commer with Duple body. Badge says "Corinthian" on radiator. Was with Central, Walsall new(?) in 1960. Restriction on PSV width on Arran was, I think, to do with the narrow roads, and having experienced a white knuckle ride on a packed Stagecoach Western Volvo B10M from Lochranza to Brodick in 2012, I wonder if the restriction should have been kept in place!
