West Yorkshire had one of the two prototype Lodekkas and DX1, JWT712, is seen here working a Harrogate local service. The chassis was an LDX6B and it carried an ECW H33/25R body. When new it was numbered 822 and the bumper was polished, not painted.

JBD963 was an early Lodekka with the full depth radiator and was new in 1954 as United Counties 958. An E.C.W. H33/25RD body was carried by the Bristol LD6B chassis and it is seen in Bedford.

One of a batch new to Southern Vectis as 508, KDL404, this 1954 LD6G first moved from the sunshine island to United Counties at Luton then to United at Scarborough and finally, after conversion to a trainer bus for United. Those of the batch that made the last hurdle to trainer bus (others fell by the wayside on the way) replaced more recently built United LD6Bs.

United Automobile 939, KDL410, a Bristol Lodekka LD6G with ECW H33/25R body. New in 1954 to Southern Vectis (514) it originally had the 'long apron' type grille. It passed to United Counties (939) in 1973, then was initially loaned to United Automobile in 1975 before being acquired by them, remaining in the green livery. It became a UAS Driver Training vehicle in 1976.

My first visit to Winchester after travelling from Bournemouth and greeted by a selection of rear ends of Hants and Dorset Lodekkas including NEL23 and FLJ154D, also an Aldershot and District Loline nearest the "Welcome to Winchester" arch, which was a nice touch for visitors.

Crosville DLB681, RFM426, a Bristol LD6B built in 1954 with ECW CH30/22RD bodywork. An uncommon use for an LD was as a coach, this was soon to depart from Chester for Wrexham.

Crosville ML699, RFM444, was a Bristol LD6B with ECW H33/25R body new in October 1954, one of RFM406-63 their large first Lodekka batch. In the major renumbering of May 1958 it became DLB699, serving until sale to a dealer in November 1968.

United AS 101, WHN701, a Bristol Lodekka LD6B built in 1954 with ECW H33/27R bodywork. Originally BL1 and numerically the first of a large number of Lodekkas.

The Castle Point Transport Museum houses both the first and last Lodekkas supplied new to Eastern National amongst the preserved ranks on display. The first is XVX19 (4208/1431/2400) seen here in June 1996 at the rear of the Museum.

It was withdrawn in September 1969, but was one of two LD type Lodekkas that were reprieved and converted into the first dedicated learner buses for West Yorkshire, despite having already been painted into "disposal livery" with green paint covering the cream bands.

It was sold by Quantock Motors at end of 2014 to a member of the BVBG and this is probably it's first pubic appearance since then. It may even have had a repaint or intensive clean up because it's devoid of it's name "Sir Humphry Davy" etc. The sister vehicle is likely to be sold during 2015.

Bristol 8581, 627HFM, a Bristol Lodekka LD6B built in 1959 with ECW CO33/27RD bodywork, named "Western Winner" and seen at Weston-super-Mare on tourist duties. This had been new to Crosville as DLB978 and has been preserved since the shot was taken.

Ex Crosville 627HFM, fleetnumber DLB978, is a Bristol Lodekka with convertible ECW 60 seat body new in 1959. Originally fitted with a Bristol engine it now sports a Gardner unit.

A photograph of former Crosville Bristol LD6B DLB978, 627HFM, participating in the annual Kirkby Stephen Rally has recently appeared on the site. It shouldn't be forgotten, however, that this bus, new in 1959 and believed to be the last Lodekka in the British Isles which retains its detachable roof as built from new, earns its keep operating private hires and scheduled services for Cumbria Classic Coaches of Ravenstonedale.

Former Crosville Bristol LD6B DLB978, 627HFM, now operated by Cumbria Classic Coaches, is admired by passing tourists as it stands in the former Station Yard at Hawes. It was operating the company's service from Ravenstonedale via Kirkby Stephen and Aisgill which operates on Tuesdays between Easter and the end of October.
