North Western 415, JA7787, awaiting departure at Glossop (Norfolk Arms Hotel) during the late 1950's. It was a Bristol K5G, new in 1938 with fleet number 887 and an ECW body but in 1951 it was rebodied by Willowbrook and renumbered.

Two North Western Road Car Company buses from different eras, 423, JA7795, a Bristol K5G with Willowbrook L27/28R body, delivered new in 1938 as Fleet No 895 originally with an ECW body but was rebodied in 1951/2. It was not withdrawn until 1965.

Walsall 211, JDH275, was a Guy Arab II of 1945, originally with a utility Park Royal H30/26R body and numbered 41. In 1953 it was rebodied with a Willowbrook H30/26R body and renumbered 211. Note the traditional and economical method of engine cooling.

Trent AEC Regal 752, RC9658, was new in 1947 with a Willowbrook B35F body, being the first of a batch of forty-three delivered in 1947/8. In 1958 it was one of twenty rebuilt and converted to FDP39F and renumbered 301 as seen here at Manchester (L.M.S.) on the service from Nottingham.

New in 1947 with Willowbrook B35F body, Trent 766, RC9672, was an early post-war AEC Regal and is laying over outside Manchester (L.M.S.) before returning to Nottingham despite the destination display. In 1958 twenty from the batch of forty-three were converted to FDP39F.

Express Motors, Rhostryfan, RC9680, an AEC Regal 0662 with Willowbrook FDP39F body. New to Trent in 1947 with Willowbrook B35F body and numbered 774, Willowbrook lengthened it to 30ft and rebuilt it in this form in 1958, becoming no. 308. Acquired by Express Motors in 1962.

Venture bought sixty Daimler CVD6 buses with Willowbrook B35F bodies between 1946 and 1948. JPT551, number 163, was one of the last ten to be delivered and had by the time of this photograph been fitted with a folding door and modified cab for one man operation.

Barton 737, VVO737, was a Leyland Tiger PS1 given a Willowbrook double deck body in 1957. Barton were one of the last major operators to provide a parcels service as exemplified by the sign on the radiator

Like a number of companies in the fifties, Barton rebuilt a number of Leyland Tigers some of which received double deck bodies by Willowbrook. Seen at the 2011 Kirkby Stephen rally is Barton 782, WAL782, which was new to Barton in 1948 as a saloon. It was rebuilt in 1957.

Hebble 19, BCP828, a Willowbrook DP33F bodied Leyland PS2/3 is seen in leafy surroundings at Stonegate Road Circus, Leeds. It had been numbered 41 when new in 1950 and became 19 in June 1957, being further renumbered to 184 in June 1958 and to 133 in August 1960.

Leyland PS2 BCP829 is being used here by Wallasey Welfare Department. It appears to have been modified for one man operation while still in PSV use and has later been modified somewhat at the rear, possibly in connection with fitting a wheel chair lift.

A busy day at Lower Mosley Street Bus Station in Manchester sees Hebble 185, BCP829, departing on the X12 service to Bradford. This was a Willowbrook DP33F bodied Leyland PS2/3 new in 1950 as number 42, becoming 20 in June 1957, 185 in June 1958 and finally 134 in August 1960. After withdrawal in February 1962 it passed to Great Yarmouth as number 17 entering service in October. It passed in May 1965 to Wallasey Corporation Welfare Department and was rebuilt to B17FL.

Seen at the Walnut Street garage in Halifax is Hebble 186, BCP830, the last of six Willowbrook DP33F bodied Leyland PS2/3s new in 1950. Originally numbered 43 it was renumbered 21 in June 1957, 186 in June 1958 and was repainted into the bus livery in 1958. It was again renumbered to 135 in August 1960 and was withdrawn in February 1962.

West Riding Autos 342, CHL772, was one of two Daimler CVD6's with Willowbrook B35F body bought by Bullock & Sons in 1950. It was the last bus to be registered by them, just four months before they were taken over by West Riding. Like its sister (341) it had bus seating, but 342 maintained this coach livery.

Seen at Airdrie Cross is Baxter 100, LDD770, a Leyland PSU1/11 Royal Tiger with Willowbrook B44F body which had been new to Bevan Bros., Cinderford in January 1952 and which passed to Baxter in February 1953 as number 60, being renumbered in 1954. It was withdrawn in July 1960.

It entered service in January 1959 and was Venture's first bus to have a three-track number blind, somewhat superfluous for a company whose highest numbered service during its independent existence was 88. It was allocated to Blackhill depot and I well remember it coming through our village displaying 500 instead of 005.

Grenville Motors of Troon operated 773PRL, a Bedford SB5 with Willowbrook B42F bodywork, which had been new to Oxford of Falmouth (one of the operators on the Falmouth-Penryn circular service) in December 1962. It was acquired from Hocking of Penryn in 1968. Between 1967 and 1973 Grenville gradually acquired all the former operators on this service which became Grenville's most frequent, operating every twenty minutes on weekdays and every forty minutes on Sundays.

I was fortunate to be working for Midland Red at Digbeth Coach Station in the early 1960s and so was on hand to photograph anything new that turned up. The acquisition of new DP single deckers from an outside supplier was quite an event and hadn't happened for 10 years at that time. Seen here is LS18A 5185, 5185HA, just after delivery from Central Works, following a quality inspection, and ready to enter service the following day. The LS18As had Leyland PSU3/4R running units with Willowbrook 48 seat dual-purpose bodywork.

With a view to converting further services to OMO, Highland Omnibuses took delivery of two Ford R192s with Willowbrook B45F bodies in May 1968, to be followed by two more in the September of the same year. One of the earlier pair, T18, HST49F, is seen at Fort William Bus Station wearing a new (short-lived) version of the livery introduced that year but replaced in 1970 by peacock blue and poppy red. All four lasted until 1981.

In 1969 Yorkshire Traction received a quartet of Willowbrook bodied Leyland Atlanteans that were part of an order for Devon General. They were delivered in Devon General livery and placed in service in that condition by Yorkshire Traction. 750, RHE450G, leaves Leeds on the long distance Wakefield - Barnsley- Sheffield service some months after entering service.

Yorkshire Traction 750, RHE450G, was one of four Leyland PDR1A/1s with Willowbrook H44/31F bodies which had been diverted from Devon General in March 1969. They had been intended to be Devon General 542-5, OTT542-5G and ran initially in Devon General livery before being repainted in 1970/1 into Yorkshire Traction livery.

West Yorkshire had a number of ECW bodied RE coaches partially rebuilt by Willowbrook in the nineteen seventies ... the resultant vehicles were somewhat ugly compared to the original. CRG13, YWY514G, delivered in 1969 was a Bristol RELH6G when photographed it was wearing NBC express livery and was numbered 1022.

Rotherham Corporation bought Daimler Fleetlines from 1967 until it became part of South Yorkshire PTE in 1974. Most of these were Roe bodied double deckers however in 1970 a trio of Willowbrook bodied Fleetline saloons entered service. The first of these 169, NET169J, is seen wearing the unusual coffee and cream PTE livery and its PTE fleet number 69.

Grenville Motors' DXE137J was a Bedford YRQ with Willowbrook B45F bodywork which was new in 1971, originally as a demonstrator, before operating for two years for Blue Bus Services (Tailby & George) of Willington. On 1 December 1973 Blue Bus sold out to Derby Corporation who numbered it 43. Grenville purchased it from Derby (by then Derby Borough Transport) in 1975. It is seen at Grenville's Camborne terminus outside the company's office in Cross Street.

Sutherland Transport & Trading Company's DNS354L, a Bedford VAS5 with Willowbrook B16FM bodywork has arrived from Lochinver on the west coast and waits just below the Post Office on Lairg's Main Street for the arrival of the bus from the railway station with mail, parcels (and maybe the odd passenger) from the south. Then the daily ritual will be enacted and the sleepy village of Lairg will become (briefly) a hive of activity until the buses depart and all is peaceful again.

Paton Bros JHS228K, a Ford 1014 with Willowbrook C45F bodywork, stands in the sunshine at the depot after coming off service on the Paisley to Renfrew Ferry route. It was bought new by Patons in June 1972 and passed to Western SMT with the company in August 1979 although it was never operated by them. It eventually became a caravan and was licensed until 1994.

Willowbrook demonstrator '1973' was one of three such coaches demonstrated at Gynn Square during the 13th National Coach Rally at Blackpool. All had Willowbrook '002' Expressway bodies and were one Ford R192 - C45F, and two Ford R1014 - C45F. The identity of this one is unknown.
