Manchester Atlantean and Fleetline comparison in the P Way yard. Leyland Atlantean PDR1/2 3819, END819D, was Stockport-based for many years, whilst Daimler Fleetline 4731, FNE731D, was clearly most recently a Northenden garage bus.

Although an early buyer of rear engined Leyland Atlanteans, Devon General continued to purchase AEC Regents until the mid 1960s. This 1966 AEC Regent V has MCW bodywork and was 524, EOD524D, in the Devon General fleet

Vintage Yellow Buses Ltd Atlantean ERV251D, seen here giving city tours in Bath on a sunny January day. It was new in July 1966 as Portsmouth 251, a Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 with MCW H43/33F body, passed to Southdown in 1990, to Cumberland a year later, then via Abacus (Cardiff) to its current owner in Sept 1996.

Aldershot & District, Aldershot 45, FHO535D, the last of five new in November 1966, was an A.E.C. 6MU3RA Reliance with a MCW C49F body, and is seen in Victoria Coach Station. When new it had carried fleet number 535.

Leeds second batch of Leyland Atlanteans dated from 1966 and carried a style of MCW bodywork pioneered by Newcastle. These were Leeds last 30ft long double deckers until the dawn of the PTE era. 351, HUA351D, is seen in PTE livery.

Liverpool rebuilt a number of their earlier Leyland Atlanteans to dual door layout at the end of the nineteen sixties. L864, FKF864E, was delivered in 1967 with a single entrance MCW body. In 1969 it was one of 50 buses converted by Pennine Coachcraft to enable the spread of one man operation.

New to Sunderland in 1968 as their 98, JBR98F, a Bristol RELL6G with Sunderland designed MCW bodywork, becoming 1898 in the Tyne and Wear PTE fleet. It is seen in a wet Burnley after sale to Burnley and Pendle in 1977, becoming their number 83, one of a number of ex-Sunderland buses which were bought by Burnley in the 1970s.
