Seen at Howell Croft bus station in Bolton is Lancashire United 657, 574FTF, one of fourteen Leyland PD3/4s with M.C.C.W. H41/32R bodies bought in 1958 for the final trolleybus replacement. Route 82 replaced the trolleybus route from Bolton to Leigh via Atherton.
Apart from Guy Arab 603 (320ATC) delivered in 1956 these were the first 30’ long motorbuses in the fleet and after number 657 the fleet numbering reverted to 1 upwards with a batch of Burlingham bodied AEC Reliances.
